U.S. COVID-19 Impact – While COVID-19 has had a dramatic negative socioeconomic and public health impact, less than 6% of Americans have likely been infected to date
Summary:
- Vast Majority Not Yet Infected – More than 94% of the U.S. population, or 310.9 million people, have likely not yet been infected with COVID-19
- Estimated Infections – Up to 19 million people or six percent of total population may have been infected, based upon seroprevalence studies (i.e. percentage of sample size who tested positive for presence of infection and antibodies)
- Minimal Relative Testing – Less than nine percent of the U.S. population, or almost 28 million people, have been tested for COVID-19
- Positive Test Results – Just 0.7% of Americans have tested positive for COVID-19 to date, which is about 8% of those tested
- Death Rates – COVID-19 related deaths are currently at 0.03% of the U.S. population, but are almost 5% of those who tested positive, and perhaps 0.5% to 1% of actual infections
We plan to update this chart on a regular basis, as new data and estimates become available.
